If you want to pay for a virus scanning program I would go with : BitDefender
If you want something free the best that I have seen is : Avg Anti Virus
Spyware
Ad-ware SE is a good program to use it has a free version they will not scan your computer all the time, you will have to tell it to scan your computer.
What I tell people to do is run it once a week.
Spybot S&D has many great programs, they have a program that will scan your computer for spyware and adware, and many other types of programs that will clean your computer out.
Web Browser and Email Programs
Firefox is a light weight program many great plug-ins that you can use. Made by the people that made Mozilla
Thunder Bird is an email program that is also made by Mozilla.
